Carmen, El Juramento and Farnace

The World is a Stage

A great ballet and opera enthusiast, Jesús del Pozo has, through out the years created entire wardrobes for a variety of plays, ballets, films and even operas. His collaborations have been varied and include work with important directors from José Carlos Plaza to Bob Wilson, Emilio Sagi and Fernando Trueba. This labour of love is vivid proof of the great passion he feels for the stage. His most fertile years in this field coincided with the change of millenium.

Beginning in 1998 he concentrates all his energy on creating unforgettable costumes for ballet and opera. That very year he creates both the costumes for a ballet inspired by the life of García Lorca, produced by Aída Gómez and José Antonio Ruiz, and performed at the Granada Festival 1998, and those for "The Four Seasons" of the National Cuban Ballet (directed by Alicia Alonso). Soon after he embarks on the creation of the full wardrobe for the Teatro Real's version of Bizet's "Carmen", directed by Emilio Sagi (from the 1998-9 season, and now part of the LA Opera's repertoire). In January 2000 Jesús del Pozo repeats his collaboration with Emilio Sagi, this time for a zarzuela (Spanish operetta) called "El Juramento" ("The Oath") for the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid. He makes the leap to set designer in October 2001, when he creates both the sets and the costumes for Vivaldi's "Farnace" at the Zarzuela Theatre.
